This
week is Spanish Week! We are very excited about this and there
will be lots of opportunities to learn about all things Spanish. We have
already started to learn some new Spanish songs!
English
In
English this week we will be looking at some more stories by the fantastic author
Julia Donaldson. We will be continuing to look at characters and settings
before writing a story of our own!
Can you
choose a setting and draw a picture of it? Can you then write some sentences to
describe it using your senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell?

Maths
This
week in Maths we will be revisiting the concepts of multiplication and
division.
Year
1 children will count on in 2s or 5s up to 100 and begin to recognise odd and
even numbers up to at least 20
Year
2 children will understand multiplication as repeated addition; and division as
its inverse; recognise 2-digit multiples of 2, 5 and 10; and know their
multiplication facts
Helping
the children to learn their times tables is a vital strategy to help them with
mental addition and subtraction of much bigger numbers.

websites to help:-
Science
This week we will be continuing our new topic on
Living Things.
We will be asking the question
“Where do things live?”
We will talk about the
habitats that animals and plants live in. Most animals and plants have to live
in the right environment to enable their needs to be met. Animals can move to a
suitable habitat and plants have to spread their seeds to enable seedlings to
start growing in suitable habitats.
Do you have pets at home? Can you talk about what
you need to do to make sure that they stay healthy & alive? Can you also
talk about what you do to keep plants healthy?
Topic
Our new topic is The
Football World Cup which the children are really enjoying!
This week we will be
looking at the maths involved in the World Cup!
We will be talking about
how many teams there are, how many in each group and how many matches they will
be playing. We will show how the number of goals scored for & against &
the points gained will be recorded (3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss)
in the group matches.
We will then be
completing a challenge! We will have three team kits of shirts and shorts. We will explain that
these are the only colours available & FIFA want to find out how many
different combinations there can be. So the red shirt could for example be matched
with the blue shorts. We will cut out the shirts and shorts & pair them up
to find the possibilities!
Reminders
Sports Day
The new date for Sports Day is Friday 11th July. We apologise for any inconvenience
caused. It will be held in the afternoon
for our Foundation Stage and Key Stage One children. We would love to see you
all there, so all we can do now is to hope for good weather! If you haven't already
done so, could you please check that your child's pumps fit them, and that they
have appropriate school PE kit.
Sun cream
And finally, we are delighted to be able to request that
children bring a hat and sun cream into school for the rest of the term! The
weather has been absolutely beautiful and we are optimistic that it will
continue, so it is important that our little ones are protected from the sun.
If you apply a layer before they come to school in the
morning, this will last until lunchtime. It is also important that they are
able to apply it themselves.
Thank you for your continued support.
Year 1/2 Team.
