16th June 2014

Well, we really are hurtling towards the end of another successful year, but that doesn't mean we are slowing down and there is still lots to get through.

English

In English this week we will be looking at some more stories by the fantastic author Julia Donaldson. We will compare similarities and differences and express our opinions. We will also be looking at some of the characters in detail.

Can you choose a favourite character from one of your books at home? Can you draw a picture of your character and write some sentences to describe it?

Science

This week we will be continuing our new topic on Living Things.

We will be asking the question “When is a thing a living thing?”

We will talk about the seven processes that all living things exhibit. These are movement, reproduction, sensitivity, nutrition, excretion, respiration and growth.

Can you spot any living things on your journey to school? If you have pets, what do they do that shows you that they are living things?

Topic

Our new topic is The Football World Cup which the children are really enjoying!

This week we will be looking at the flag of England and the Union Flag. We will also be looking at the flags of some of the other countries in The World Cup. We will be looking at the shapes and patterns that we can see. We will then sort the flags by pattern and colour.

Reminders

This week we will be carrying out our phonics screening check for the Year 1 children and also some of the children in Year 2. It would be helpful if you could continue to practise the phonemes at home with your child. There are lots of useful websites detailed above to help you with this.

We had a great time last week at Tattenhall with the Year 2 children and we know that you will have had some very tired children at home this weekend. We would love to see some of the photos that the children have taken, so please do send them in to share.

Thank you for your continued support.

Year 1/2 Team.
