Non
Uniform Day
There will be a non-uniform day this Thursday.
Please bring a donation for the Harvest festival mass. This will be held on
Friday at 9am in the school hall.
CAFOD
Family Fast Day
Envelopes should be distributed this week to
children. Donations could include the money that each family would have spent
on one meal. This is a worthwhile cause and we have received many thank you
letters from CAFOD for our generous donations over a number of years.
Homework
Homework will be sent out this week on Thursday,
and we hope that all the children will be able to complete it. Could we
remind you that it should be completed in HB pencil and any lines
are drawn with a ruler. Numeracy work should be completed online,
using the My Maths website. Login details will be stuck into your child's
diary this week. We would like parents to sign their child’s homework too
every week, so we know you have seen the work your children is expected to
complete. If you child experiences any difficulties with homework, please
feel free to make a comment in their homework book or their diary.
A
reminder
We have noticed quite a few children playing on
the equipment outside Foundation Stage in a morning and again after school.
Could we ask that you refrain from playing on the equipment during these times
please. Many thanks.
Congestion
A big thank you to those parents who drop your
children off on the playground in a morning. It really does help them to
become more independent and ensures that they are ready to start work much
more quickly.

Literacy
|
This week, we will be reading the story ‘Bog
Babies’ in our Literacy lessons. We will be investigating how the author
describes the settings of the story and working on how to predict what
happens next.
We will be looking at how question marks and
exclamation marks are used in the story and then having a go at using them to
make up our own questions.
By the end of the week, the children will be
using drama and ‘Freeze Frames’ to act out what happens in the story. Some
children will be ‘hotseated’, and asked questions – they have to remember
that they have to answer in role, as a bog baby! During the dramas, the
children will use the musical instruments to create sound effects for the
creatures habitats.

A big thank you to everyone who has commented on
their child’s reading in the diaries. It really does make such a difference
to the progress your child can make during the year. We would ask that you
make a comment at least twice per week in the diary and value your support
with this.

Numeracy

Maths
This week in Maths we
will be starting the topic of counting on from a given number leading to
addition.
Year 1 children will say the number that is 1
more than a given number and count on 1, 2, 3 or 4 from a given number.
Year 2 children will add by counting on in 1s
from the larger number, crossing a multiple of 10; add three numbers by
putting the largest number first.

Science
|
In Science this week, the children will be
putting their listening skills to the test and we will be checking if they
can remember how to make a circuit. They will also all have the chance to see
if they can make the boy’s nose light up in the area (if you have a look at
the interactive display in the area, it all makes sense!)

electrical circuit!
What does your child know about electricity?
Where does it come from? How many objects in the house use it as a power
source? Why is it dangerous? This is our first science topic of the year, so
why not see how much your child already knows?

Come and See
|
This week we are finishing our topic of Beginnings.
The children will be celebrating all kinds of beginnings; remembering their
own families and God’s care for them all. They will also take away with them
the question of what they can do for their families this week.

What can
we find in our local area?
The children are following a school project about
Warrington. The whole school are covering different aspects of the local
area. The children will be learning a lot about Warrington and its special
features including the history of the local area.
This week the children will be learning about the
origins of street names, Meeting Lane, Tannery Lane and looking at the
website: www.penketh.com to look at old buildings on these roads. We
will be talking about similarities and differences.
If you have an A-Z of Warrington you could help
your child by identifying some of these features. We will be looking at a
local map and the children will be drawing their own maps.

We've enjoyed making a circuit at home today, this is a great way of giving the children a visual understanding! Great blog, it's so good to get involved and be a part of what they are doing and provides more opportunity to embed their new skills!!
