Well that was a busy first week back wasn't it?
English
This week, we will continue with our
comprehension sessions, where the children will need to use their inference and
deduction skills to answer questions about the text. They will also be writing
about their favourite books in preparation for World Book Day on Thursday,
where they will be able to come to school dressed as their favourite book
character.
We would like them to draw/paint/make a collage
of their favourite book cover this week for homework and write a small book
review of it. We will display these in our class book corners, so the bigger,
more sparkly the better! We will publish some photographs next week!
Maths
This week in Maths we
will be working on counting on and back in 2s, 5s and 10s which leads into the
beginning of multiplication. This will involve recognising odd and even numbers
up to 100 and the X sign as multiplying a number.
Year 1 children will count
on and back in 1s or 10s and say the number that is 1 or 10 more or less up to
100.
Year 2 children will count on in 2s, 5s or 10s;
recognise odd and even numbers; and
understand multiplication as ‘lots of’ and use the × sign
It is important that
your child is confidently able to know and use the language of multiplication
to achieve this objective and as always your support at home is valued. It is
never too early to start to learn times tables beginning with the 2, 5 and 10 x
tables.
Have a look back at
last week's blog for website to support you with this at home.
Book Fair Open - World Book Day – 7 March 2013
Our School Book Fair will be open from Tuesday 5 to Friday 8
March – 3.00 to 3.45 pm. Please come along and support your school. School will
benefit from commission on every book purchased.
The £1 World
Book Day Vouchers may be used at the Fair.
The treasure hunt shoe boxes should all now have been handed
in, these are being inspected today to decide our winners! May I say how
impressed I was with the effort and enthusiasm everyone has shown towards this
event.
Everyone
should be very proud of themselves for taking part. Comments I have received by
parents suggest we have all particularly enjoyed this activity - a big thank
you to parents for supporting your children. Please may I ask that sponsor
money should be collected and brought in to school by Friday 8th March. The
winners will be announced on Monday 11th March. Well done everybody!! A big
thank you to our 'Disco Divas' Helen Moss and Debbie Monk, who always work so
hard to organise the school discos. Everyone enjoyed the Junior disco on
Tuesday despite the short notice (apologies for that!) The Infant disco will be
held next Thursday 7th March. Thank you to all parents/teachers who have lent their
support or supervised - your help is very much appreciated!!
