11th March 2013

The children all looked fabulous in their costumes this week for World Book Day - a big thank you to all of you for getting them ready!

In Literacy this week, we will be working on improving our Grammar skills, in particular, being able to use capital letter and full stops in the correct place, including for Proper Nouns. We will also be looking at using correct terminology when talking about grammar.

This week in Maths we will be continuing our work on multiplication and beginning division.

Year 1 children will add by counting on, not bridging a multiple of 10 other than 10 or 20; and add two multiples of 10 by counting on in 10s.

Year 2 children will Introduce multiplication as repeated addition; record facts using × and =; and begin to understand division as grouping.

It is important that your child is confidently able to know and use the language of multiplication to achieve this objective and as always your support at home is valued. It is never too early to start to learn times tables beginning with the 2, 5 and 10 x tables.

On Thursday afternoon, there will be a fundraising afternoon in the hall to raise money for Comic Relief. If the children bring plenty of change, they can take part in raffles, quizzes and lots of other exciting activities. On Friday itself, the children can come into school wearing something RED AND they can also wear SLIPPERS, to show how comfortable we are, and that some of the people we are raising money for are not.

We will let you know how the children got on with their book covers next week - we hope you enjoyed doing them and that you had some great discussion about your child's favourite book, as well as your own?

We hope you all have a relaxing Mother's Day and that the children have shared their cards with you!

Year 1/2 team.
